The Austin branch of the NAACP has been a part of the association’s long and storied tradition since 1915 and has waged historic fights against racial injustice in Travis County. Beginning with protest against the lynching of blacks in the early part of the 19th century; rightful battle for school desegregation of the 1980’s; the public protest of police brutality of 2002-2004 the local branch has continued the work of the association. |

2009 DeWitty/Overton Freedom Fund Banquet
Dear Friends,
This has been a wonderful year for the NAACP. We are celebrating the 100th year history as the nation's oldest civil rights organization. Celebrations took place nation wide, including the 100th NAACP Annual convention in New York City this past July.
On December 5, 2009 the Austin NAACP Chapter will hold its 44th Annual DeWitty/Overton Freedom Fund Banquet which honors two great Texans who fought on the front lines for civil rights: Arthur DeWitty and Volma Overton. The recipient of this year's prestigious 2009 NAACP DeWitty/Overton Award is Austin's own "Sheriff Greg Hamilton".
We are asking you to support the success and the relevance of the Austin NAACP branch by purchasing an ad in our 2009 DeWitty/Overton Souvenir Journal. Your ad will be among other local vendors, politicians, business owners, churches, and other sponsors. Placing an ad in the journal is a wonderful opportunity to become a part of this historical booklet.
Please see the Program Advertising Page the pricing structure for advertisement in the souvenir journal. If you have any questions about the process, please don't hesitate to contact me at (512) 423-4354 or via email:
